Battle for the Mind
As you think, so you are. Our minds play a vital role in shaping us as people and so what we think about affects our whole lifestyle. Renewing the mind is absolutely vital for every Christian, we need to be shaped by the Word of God, and it all starts in the mind.
This excellent little book (less than 100 pages and easy to read!) addresses this crucially important topic and will help you begin the process of transforming your thinking.
Beginning with identifying why renewing the mind is so important and looking at a number of areas of what happens to an uncontrolled mind (stress, anxiety, temptation, cynicism, negativism, self-pity, fear – ever feel any of those?) this book quickly points you towards the Word of God and is full of practical and helpful application to help you live in the freedom that life in Christ is supposed to bring.
This is not a quick-fix solution, read-it-once type of book, but the kind you should keep coming back to again and again. Although to be honest, this is less of a book and more like sitting and having a chat with Dave; I thoroughly recommend it to you!

Captive in Iran
In today’s ‘multi-media-sound-bite-tweet-tastic-hashtag-headlines-only’ culture, it’s not often that you pick up a book and become so gripped by it that you cannot put it down and move on to something else. But that was exactly my experience of Captive in Iran.
The more I read of this tremendous heart-wrenching and faith-stirring account of two women imprisoned for their faith in Iran, the more I realised I was discovering treasure over which it was worth lingering.
Maryam and Marziyeh have a remarkable story to tell; there is nothing religious or superficial about their hope in Christ, instead they speak of a love for Him and His gospel that is inspiring and provoking. My soul was well fed and my mind renewed as I considered the sobering reality of persecution and suffering for the sake of the gospel, and saw the beauty of lives truly hidden with Christ in God.
Biographies of heroes of the faith are always worth reading, for they speak into our own daily experiences and lift our eyes to another way. I urge you to read this book, and let their story shape yours!

Take Heart [CD]
Pete Coggan is one of the writers behind Newday tracks We Are Yours, Faithful and Child Forever. In this long-awaited five-track EP, he creatively brings together poetic biblical truth with fresh melodies and sounds.
Blessed Hurricane is a track Pete performs superbly live, and seems to be the people’s favourite. It has some cool drum beats and melodies and explodes with the faithfulness of God through tough times. Title track Take Heart brings you back to the source of everything, with some fun vocals.
But my favourite track is Child Forever, which gets me every time with its life-changing revelation of the Father’s heart. The version on the EP is a simple piano recording, pulling it all pack to the foundational truth that God will never let us go. It is just so sweet to listen to: the combination of beautiful lyrics and a gracious message makes it powerful, too.
The only bad thing about the Take Heart EP is that it’s not longer! Listening to it will inspire to go deeper into God.

Life is busy, crazy busy. Christians are not immune. Yet Jesus taught us that crazy busyness was the mark of a pagan, not the mark of one of his followers (Matthew 6:32). It’s as if somewhere along the line Christians have become infected with the disease which God intends for us to cure. We need to rediscover the Bible’s practical teaching for our fast-paced age. We need to rediscover life as God intended it to be.
Kevin DeYoung addresses the problem of crazy busyness with great wisdom and grace, helping us to see what difference faith in Jesus should make to our stressed-out lives. If you have had enough of feeding the most important things in life on leftovers, then this book is for you. Be warned, however. If you take this book seriously, then your crazy busy life may never be the same again.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

The Spirit-Filled Church
This is a radical book that may demolish many of your current beliefs about the church. Its author has been convinced for decades that the Church can resemble the model described in Acts. Terry Virgo has devoted his life to embracing both the Spirit’s power and the rock-solid foundation of the Scriptures. He founded Newfrontiers, a global movement of 1,000 vibrant, grace-rooted, Spirit- filled churches.

The Myth of the Undeserving Poor
When you think of poverty in Britain today, do you picture innocent children going without food or scroungers lounging on the sofa all day watching TV and cheating on benefits claims?
For Christians, what we think about the poor in our nation needs to be shaped by biblical values, but can so often be framed by the dominant narratives of the day, which affect our attitudes and actions.
Have we fallen for the myth of the undeserving poor?
